We got the first 25,000 points from our INK Bold card when we started using it, and we’re well on our way to getting the second 25,000 points before the end of the year.
Today, we got 40,000 bonus points for spending $3,000 in the first three months using our Sapphire card.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m not sure we’ll keep this card after we get the bonus points since the rewards for the INK Bold and our Explorer cards are much better. I signed up for the Sapphire card strictly to get the bonus points. My plan is to only keep the cards with the best rewards and cancel the others so that we don’t have to pay annual fees on 5-6 cards.
We will, however, keep the Sapphire card until the end of the full year so we earn the 7% annual points dividend. Once that’s on the books, we’ll cancel. If you cancel no more than 2-3 months after your anniversary date, CHASE will refund your annual fee – so there’s nothing to lose SO LONG AS YOU REMEMBER TO CANCEL ON TIME.
Once the clock resets on January 1, 2013, our focus will be on earning as many points as possible using our INK Bold card, as well as getting 10,000 bonus miles for $25,000 spend on whichever Explorer card we keep (probably the business one, which has more 2X miles categories).
That will continue to be our strategy, though I’m tempted to get the new Bank of America Cashback card which has no fees. I will also continually be on the lookout for new United rewards cards that we can sign up for to earn bonus points or miles.
