Alerts – Credit Card and Bank Accounts

alertI have alerts set up on my credit cards so that I get an email every time a charge goes through. This is how I found out someone had hacked my card two years ago and charged $3,000 to my VISA. A friend had booked hotels for a trip a bunch of us were taking and she needed our credit card numbers. Stupidly, I emailed mine to her (despite that little voice in my head telling me to call her with it). Someone from Turkey hacked her Facebook account which gave them access to her email account, which led to them getting my credit card number…

So, CHASE closed that credit card number and issued me a new one. I got yet another replacement for that card, yesterday, because we’d used it at Target and Target’s accounts were recently breached…

Such a pain!

I also have alerts set up on my bank accounts to let me know when I get below a certain balance. That’s how I found out that I had insufficient funds for two checks yesterday! I had, mistakenly, written checks to the IRS using the wrong checkbook. (So much for being organized!) Each came with a $34 fee!

I’ve posted before how I never pay fees!!

I immediately transferred funds into the account to cover the negative balance. And I emailed the “Private Client Banker” guy who’s been calling me to set up a meeting. I mentioned my embarrassing mistake and he reversed both $34 charges! As I’ve posted before, know your banker.
