I like to drink wine on the weekends. Trouble is, it has to be inexpensive, it has to taste good, and it can’t be a brand that keeps me awake at night. So, I pretty much buy one kind of wine for myself – McManis Cabernet.
At the liquor store near our house, it usually costs $8.99. At the biggest, discount liquor stores it is often advertised for $7.99 or even $6.99/bottle. But I don’t drive all the way to the huge discount stores. I just watch for their ads in the Thursday newspapers, cut them out, and bring them with me. Because, my liquor store honors competitor prices!
To make things even better, I’m able to buy discounted gift cards online for “my” liquor store, which just happens to be part of a larger national drugstore chain (Rite Aid). In fact, I buy discounted gift cards online for many of the stores I frequent including Macy’s, Target, Hobby Lobby and TJ Maxx.
My favorite site for Rite Aid gift cards is Cardpool, which is where I get the biggest discount (10%). So, between the store honoring competitor prices AND my use of a discounted gift card, my $8.99 bottle of wine today cost me $7.19 – a 20% savings!
And,OK, I bought six bottles.
