Today I Spent an Extra $75 to Book a Rewards Flight

Sometimes I screw up. But, if I learn from it, or someone reading this blog learns something, then I guess it will translate into saving money at some point.

I’m flying to Calgary for a visit and I’m using rewards miles on United. And I’m timing it so that I use the fewest number of miles possible (25,000 for a round trip).

Hint: if you book 21 or more days in advance it costs $59 for taxes, fees and surcharges. If you book only 20 days in advance, there’s an additional $75 Reward Booking Fee. I had everything set up to purchase last night. It was $59. But my Mom was a little iffy about the timing so I didn’t purchase. Today, when she decided the dates were OK, it cost $59 plus $75.

 Damn!!

The worst thing is, I did this before about three years ago. Must remember the 21 day rule!!!
